- SEARCHLIGHT Echomail Conference Rules
- -------------------------------------
-
- The SEARCHLIGHT conference is an echomail-techonology conference for
- discussion of Searchlight BBS by Frank LaRosa, related door programs,
- and utilities. The conference was started in March of 1989 by Glen
- Johnson of 1:269/101 and currently originates from 1:2604/269@Fidonet.
- The moderator is Wayne Robinson@1:2604/269 and the co-moderator is
- Robert Hessler@1:2604/202.
-
- SEARCHLIGHT may not be ported to, or distributed in any form other than
- standard echomail technology without the express consent of the
- moderators. No exceptions. This is to ensure that Searchlight systems
- can receive the conference in a format in which they can process it.
- SEARCHLIGHT is a Fidonet conference and all gates into the echo must be
- responsible for maintaining the observance of Fidonet policies by the
- participants in their respective networks.
-
- SEARCHLIGHT is currently distributed via the "Fidonet Backbone", and
- should be available from your regular echomail feed. If it isn't,
- contact Wayne Robinson@1:2604/269@Fidonet for a feed.
-
- SEARCHLIGHT is currently gated into SL_Net, FamilyNet, and Rime. If you
- are unable to obtain a link in one of those networks, please contact the
- appropriate coordinator.
-
- The rules for conference participation are as follows:
-
- 1. Excessively annoying behavior will not be tolerated.
-
- 2. No profanity.
-
- 3. Off-topic messages are not permitted.
-
- 4. Handles or aliases are not permitted. Conference participants must
- use their real first and last names.
-
- 5. SEARCHLIGHT may be made available to BBS callers, however, the sysop
- of the BBS is responsible for the traffic leaving his system, and
- entering the SEARCHLIGHT conference.
-
- 6. Conference participants are expected to behave in a courteous manner
- to his/her fellow participants, and act responsibly. Flaming,
- intentionally insulting, or otherwise unnecessarily annoying other
- conference participants is grounds for removal from the conference.
-
- 7. Be patient with new users. We were all new once.
-
- 8. Questions regarding distribution of shareware utilities and programs
- for SEARCHLIGHT via the Software Distribution System (SDS) should be
- forwarded via private network mail to Bill Walton@1:255/1. The
- Software Distribution System and the Shareware Distribution Network
- (SDN) have their own echo. If you wish to discuss SDS/SDN policy,
- discuss it in the SDS/SDN echo and not here. For the closest SDS/SDN
- system to your system, contact your network coordinator. There is also
- a regional SDS/SDN coordinator each area of North America if your
- network coordinator can not help you.
-
- 9. Messages which contain high ASCII, ANSI, or the IBM only character set
- are by tradition not allowed in Fidonet, and are inconsiderate of users
- of non-IBM systems. Please only use the standard character set when
- posting messages in this echo.
-
- 10.No participant may receive this echo via more than one network at
- the same time. This can cause dupes which costs money to all involved.
-
- Those who choose to violate the rules of the conference will receive
- one warning from the moderator. Subsequent transgressions will result
- in removal from the conference.
-
- And lastly, like Policy 4 says, "Thou shalt not be excessively annoying,
- likewise, thou shalt not be too easily annoyed". The conference moderator
- will decide what qualifies as annoying behavior in the conference, so if
- you are offended by something someone said to you, complain to the
- moderator via netmail. Don't escalate the situation in the conference.
- Remember, it costs many people a lot of money to move echomail, so try to
- be brief, polite, and topical. Everyone will enjoy the conference more!
